Schools`s Patron Day Celebration - Olympic Games

24.06.2013 - A beautiful Monday morning. Dressed in our special green T-shirts that say "I think and act green" we, the students of American college Arcus, headed to a nice, quiet place hidden in the woods, called  Ksilifor, to celebrate our school`s patron day - Eniovden. This also happens to be one of the most traditional Bulgarian celebrations. The equivalent in English is called The Feast of St.John.

Every year we celebrate the patron`s day at school, but this time it was something unusual and I really enjoyed the experience. We made up our own Olympic games - students playing sports of all kinds: volleyball, football, dodgeball, tug of war and what not. A school day out of the school - in the nature instead - AMAZING. And, of course, our work was rewarded. We all got a bap with a tasty meatball, an apple and a bottle of water. ^^

Hosting the "Teacher Of The Year" & "Oscarius" Awards Giving Ceremony

American college Arcus` students know the summer break is just a week away when the annual awards are given - Teacher of the year & the Oscarius awards. It was even a bigger challenge for my team and me to come up with the nominations for the Oskarius prizes and to choose the winners of 2013, because this year our school celebrates its 10-th birthday, and so do these awards. Unlike previous years, this time the nominations were based on songs and not on movies. To the person with the best skills in photography we gave the Oscarius "Photograph" named after Nickelback`s song; a teacher was given the award "Smells like teen spirit" after Nirvana`s song. There were also Oscarius awards called: "Play hard" (Akon ft. David Guetta), "Fighter" (Christina Aguilera), "Save the world" (Swedish House Mafia), "Paso" (Sak Noel), and others.
For the second time, I was the host of the ceremony and I was proud of what we (the script writers and organizers) did. I really enjoy the winners` faces when their names are announced. Most of the times, the nominees have no idea they are taking part in the awards!

Opening of The Photo Exhibition "Reflections"

Since I have been a member of the photo club at school for the past few months, I enjoy every meeting with my co-clubbers. Our twice-a-month adventures outside school gave birth to an exhibition called "Reflections". I really enjoyed capturing the best out of the beautiful town of Veliko Tarnovo or better said - its reflection in Yantra river. There are some really good photographs of mine and even better ones made by the others. I am proud of the fact that my photos take part in this exhibition and people are able to feel the magic that stands behind them.

Club 'Applied Arts': decoration of LP records

Last year`s Oskarius awards were given in the form of sunflowers. But this year, it`s gonna be more special. Our school celebrates it`s 10th bithday, so the ceremonies are even more memorable. Since the awards are given according to similiarity between people and songs, I think it`s completely appropriate to use LP records. Brilliant, isn`t it? :)) The Art club did a great job decorating these - the golden ribbon in the middle is just splendid!

Writing script and making certificates for the OSCARIUS ceremony

"Every year a group of students get to choose award categories and nominees, as well as a winner and hold a ceremony. For some it is a great opportunity to show appreciation for some accomplishment, for others - to have a little fun with a bunch of humorous nominations. So this year it was up to us (the students from the IB diploma)  to choose the nominations and make the awards. We in no way encourage skipping school or breaking the rules at school, but we decided to include such nominations in the list, because after all the idea of these events is to have fun and I can't wait to see how much fun we are going to be having once the time for the ceremony comes."
