Christmas decoration at the hall

Tomorrow is Decemberrrrrrr! Do you know what that means? 24 days left untill Christmas! I just love this month! And not only because of the celebrations, but because it is the most cheerful month of the year - the Friday of the months! :D Everything looks way better with some Christmas decoration on it. I miss the time back in Vidin when the whole family and I used to decorate the apartment. This is the first time mom and dad will do it theirselves. But I`m thinking of decorating my place in Veliko Tarnovo any time soon! Until then I have to go with the school decoration, which I took part in for the first time. It was great! Some of the students came to help us - the IBs, in decorating the hall of the building. I think this is the best decoration the school had ever had. It`s just perfect. I hope that the others won`t ruin it!

Making Christmas cards for a competition

I can already smell the Christmas spirit. Winter`s coming! Weather`s cold and it`s just the snow that`s missing. We were informed that a Christmas post-card contest is about to be run. So we decided to get involved and let our imagination fly. We made a joyful photoshoot on Monday. It was kind of embarassing wearing those red Christmas hats with two white braids each. It still is! :D But I must admit we had fun shooting. Now everyone is expected to make at least one card, using picture from the photoshoot. The deadline is Friday, but I already made mine.
I look like an idiot on the picture, but so what?
It brings joy, Christmas spirit and it makes people
smile!

Sports club - Shooting

I have always been into shooting. And, luckily, we have a small shooting range at school. I also have a secret dream of becoming a soldier. :D Since I was little, my father has always encouraged me to develop my shooting skills, so I have quite accurate sight. He never bought me an air riffle, though. The school shooting  range is fully equipped with three riffles, variety of butts and now we`re waiting for some guns to arrive. But students are not allowed to get in there without a special handler. Safety first! Memo, a girl from my crew and I are looking for a coach to hire, so that those who are willing to shoot could be trained at least once a week.
I finally got the chance to shoot today. First time since I was in ninth grade. The feeling`s good, as usual. I got rid of all the negative feelings I had stored for a while and I looked back at the old times. I`m already looking forward to visiting the shooting range again. Hope that it won`t take so long!

Publishing my "A trip to remember" at the school newspaper

Too much honours lately! :D I was just told that the head of the American College Arcus` press wants to publish my essay in the newspaper. That`s just wonderful, because I would never publish it myself. I`m glad people like and appreciate my writing. I did enjoy doing it. With a little bit of imagination, even the most boring story becomes interesting reading matter. I feel flattered to have my trip to remember published along with other great students` articles. Here it is online: http://www.ac-arcus.com/?mod=e-paper&show=55

Students elections for School Presidents

O-M-G! Guess who`s the new presidential couple of American college "Arcus" ..... I can`t believe we did it! Wow, this is such an honour, and responsibility, and privillege. I`m so excited!
We won the elections with 43% of the votes. Now that students trust Memo and me and expect us to do what we had promised, it`s getting extremely serious. I haven`t got a clear idea of what my functions as a president will be yet. But most of all, I must not abuse of authority. I promise myself  that neither the studying, nor my obligations are going to be ignored.
Wow! I`ve been dreaming of becoming a president someday, but I`d never thought it would happen so soon. Nevermind. I`m not going to disappoint my supporters. And myself!
I`m looking forward to giving my first speech as a lady president. What`s more, it seems that I`m the first official lady president of the school, how cool is that!
The local newspaper even wrote an article about the new leaders! Here it is:

Charity club “Hope & Love”: School presidents` campaign “Warm clothes from mommy and daddy`s closet”

After the success of the charity club`s first mission, we`re moving on with another one. We started our campaign “Warm clothes from mommy and daddy`s closet” in order to help homeless people in Veliko Tarnovo. The mission will take part between 16.11 and 06.12 this year. We`re going to collect clothes for 65 people (mostly men) without or with a monthly income bellow 200 BGN. Apart from the clothes, we`re going to raise money and donate some food to these people. We`re throwing a Christmas charity bazaar on the seventeenth of December. Volunteers are going to sell the clips that students had decorated during the period of the Christmas workshop.
I am really excited about each of these events. I hope we raise enough money and collect enough clothes to make these homeless people happy … even just for a day!

International project: European week for waste reduction, "Don Quixotes" project

The European Weak for Waste Reduction (EWWR) in our school will take place from the 19 to the 21 November. Since this is the IB students` international project, we decided to make a greater effort and do something memorable. During the three days of the EWWR, the photocopier centre of the school won`t work, but people will be able to enjoy our spectacular paper sculpture of Don Quixote instead!

Well, I did enjoy making this hero out of paper and it was definitely a hard work. We spent hours untill we finally loved what we had done. The creators were only able to use newspapers, magazines, sheets of paper, glue, tape and pins. The boys made the sword out of stiropor. It was a lot of fun, though! And most of all
we did this sculpture with a cause! We`re aiming to encourage people to join the fight against the overuse of paper.

School President and Vice President`s pre-elective “Baklava” campaign

It`s a really tough competition! Our opponents tried to “buy” some votes by giving out free homemade cookies. So my future vice-president Memo and I decided to stroke back! We provided 200 pieces of baklava for the students. God, it was a hard night for me trying not to taste it before the morning we were going to run our campaign! :D My “first ladies” helped me to make 250 flags, saying:”Life is much tastier with 11 IB!”. It might not sound like a big deal, but in reality, it was a lot of hard work and dedication. We did a great job, though! Memo and I were a bit nervous this Friday morning, but it went great. We “hired” some girls to help us with the give-out thing. All the students were impressed. Everyone got a piece of the baklava and a “Have a nice day!” wish on the entrance. The baklava turned out to be delicious, just as I expected! So that made our campaign even more successful. We just have to wait `till Monday to find out whether students will vote for us! Wish us luck!

Sports club - Volleyball

Volleyball has always been one of my favorite sports. But it’s a pleasure playing it, without taking it too seriously. That`s why I have never been training. I learnt playing it on the streets. I got used to playing volleyball at school, but then I joined the IB program and I no longer have PE classes. So the only chance left was the Sports club.  We played basketball the first time and volleyball – the following practice. Unfortunately, there weren`t enough players for a game, but we managed to play a bit. It was a really nice feeling, because the last time I played volleyball was four months ago! I`m glad I joined the Sports club. I do need some action after all this mind pressure at school.

Club "Applied Arts": Christmas workshop "A pinch of Christmas spirit"

Yay! The Christmas spirit is already here! Club “Applied arts” started the annual Christmas workshop. Last year the students used the Decoupage technique to decorate bottles, plates and tiles. This year`s idea was one of Mr.Petarcheva`s dreams. Amazing, isn’t it? A great source of inspiration I think, because everybody loves sleeping. :D We`re going to make 240 unique pegs and sell them on the Christmas charity bazaar. There are absolutely no restrictions in the decoration! I really had fun doing those pegs the first time and I can`t wait for the next meeting of the club to let my inspiration and imagination free!

Celebrating the Leaders of the Bulgarian National Revival Day - 1.11

Mrs. Petarcheva with her sweet bouquet
The noble ladies - Our National leaders + The best Cleaning woman ever!
On the first of November of each year Bulgaria celebrates the day of its national enlighteners.
Bulgarian teachers are privilleged to have two celebrations a year - The International Teachers`day and this one. The class happened to be on a trip to Romania at the beginning of November, so we could not give honour ot thank enlighteners other than our 4 noble ladies - Mrs. Petarcheva, Mrs. Ivanova,
Miss Ivanova and Mrs. Marinova. Iveta and I wrote a short speech for us to read, while travelling. The teachers were impressed and they made us feel very proud of what we did. There was nothing else planned for this celebration, but something came up unexpected. As we were wandering around the center of Brasov, we saw an old lady with a bunch of bouquets. She was standing out in the cold, trying to earn some money. I felt really sad for her and my compassion provoked a great idea. It was a special day for our teachers, so why not making them even more happy. We bought mini bouquets for each lady. And when we gave the flowers to them, they were just fascinated. This beautiful small posy did make the day lighter and joyful!

Karaoke-dance Party organization - 1.11

After a long, exhausting day of sightseeing and lots of emotions, the last thing you need is .. boredom! So I decided to keep the spirit up and started gathering people for another unforgettable night. The best thing we could think of was a karaoke party. And why not adding some dancing? Everybody greeted our idea with interest, so we turned the music up and made a killer party. I personally think this was the better night out of the two spent in Romania! We sang everything - from Queens to Rihanna and some famous bulgarian songs. I gave some makeshift dance lessons to the teens and it went great, as I had expected. We danced on Gangnam Style, tDanza Koduro, we learnt the Penguin Dance, some tango and, of course, to stand out as real bulgarians we performed some of the traditional round dances. The night was full of smiles and happy faces, so it was definitelly a positive experience!

Halloween party organization - 31.10

As I mentioned several times before, the other IB students and I were in charge of the Halloween party in Romania. And from my essay, written in the previous post, you can see that it went perfectly! The eight- and ninth graders were impressed by our program. Unlike us, they were clearly having a lot of fun. One of us was a DJ, three were jury, and the others, including me, were the hosts of the night. Unfortunately, we had some troubles dealing with time and that made us really nervous and easily frustrated. But as everybody relaxed, it was getting more and more successful. Luckily, nobody noticed our misunderstandings and the audience spent a great evening. Anyway, it was funny walking around in costumes and stuff! :)

Trip to Romania - "Halloween" and castle of Dracula

A TRIP TO REMEMBER
It had been a long time since I last went on a school trip. It was a cold Wednesday morning in the end of October when we set off for the vampire land of Romania – my six musketeers, my four noble ladies, our forty faithful companions and me – Lady d`Artagnan. We were about to spend three full of surprises and challenges days abroad, and celebrate the amazing night of Halloween once we arrive. Most of us had never been to Romania, or at least this part of it – the regions of Wallachia and Transylvania, so the trip was even more interesting. Except for the travelling itself, which is usually the best part, there were lots of new things to experience and see.

Our main destinations were three – Bucharest, Braṣov and Bran. Cities with a millennial history, just like ours. Maybe, if we weren`t that prominent we would have taken a closer look at the Little Paris, as Bucharest is also called. But as our nobility requires, we went to the Biggest Shopping Center, which was not even in the center, and we spent two hours there, wandering around and coquetting. Anyway, it seemed like a nice capital. There was a lot of grandiosity, refinement and precision in its buildings. Impressive elements of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Gothic periods. We were indignant by the number of churches in Bucharest – 360 – one for almost every day of the year. The city is a major cultural, political, industrial and financial centre, but most of all the effort has been to make it a “green city”. There are lots of forested areas, parks and vegetation. Too bad we didn`t have the opportunity of getting to know this beautiful capital.

We had arrived at Braṣov in the late afternoon. Although there were some problems while checking in at the hotel, my four noble ladies managed to clear the air, so we were able to fully enjoy our Halloween celebration as well as the party the following night. What to say about it. It was unforgettable. After all, even peerages like us can have fun. The six musketeers and I organized entertaining programs – a variety of games, performances and even a karaoke-dance show the second evening.

Obviously, nobody wanted to go back to their obligations at the “Arcus” castle. Speaking of castles, the second day we went to visit the home of our long forgotten friend Vlad Tepes – Dracula, located at the town of Bran. Yes, Dracula is wide known for his weird desire for blood. He was highly satisfied with torturing and impaling his enemies. But Vlad was undoubtedly a great ruler. And he also had a great residence - the one we visited. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much left from our friend in the castle, but we were delighted to see Queen Marie`s art and furniture collection, exhibited at the fortress.

After that we were kindly released to satisfy our needs in the center of Braṣov. Together with one of my musketeers, also thirsty for adventures, I visited the Evangelical Biserica Neagra (Black Church), symbol of the town. I was speechless. So much hugeness! After that we received the needed dose of experience, even more. We got lost while trying to reach the White Tower with the spectacular view of the city. Well, thanks to our good communication and intuition, we made it to the tower. Then our bad luck decided it had not given us enough, so we were almost killed by a hurricane or something. At least it wasn’t something that happened every day in our homeland, so it was kind of interesting. Thankfully, everybody survived, nobody got hurt and our countrymen missed the chance to lose such VIP persons like us.

So on the third day we got home alive and well, with lots of moments stuck in our heads that were about to turn into some of the best memories of our lives. Our children will have to listen to our glorious stories when we grow old, so this trip will definitely be remembered. For good, of course. And by then, Lady d`Artagnan, her six musketeers, her four noble ladies and the rest of the companions will seek for adventures and challenges to become the new “trips to remember”.
